The driver of the stolen jeep then crashed into a Dodge Ram parked next to the curb before getting out of the vehicle and fleeing the scene. Two 17-year-old boys remained in the jeep.

One of the boys was taken to hospital for a possible broken wrist after police found him with firearms and suspected drugs. The other was arrested and sent to the juvenile court.

The driver of the minivan was transported to hospital and was later found dead. Three of the passengers in the car died on the spot, and three children, who were also riding in the vehicle, were taken to hospital in serious condition.

“It was like an explosion,” said Valencia Bates, the owner of a beauty salon near the crash site. Bates said that if the cars did not bounce off some concrete pots on the corner, they may have entered her business, according to Sending.

She said she went outside to see if she could help by offering a fire extinguisher.

“But when they started removing those bodies, I had to go back inside,” she said.
